The students that I work with are AMAZING! They are eager to learn, but it can be a difficult journey for them. As a special education teacher who works with kids from first to sixth grade who have learning disabilities, my students range not only in age, but also in learning styles and needs. Most of my students are eager to learn, but need more specific instruction to help them grow. Many are turned off from reading because of the struggles they have faced. I have found that teaching my students how to LOVE books, how to become life-long readers is top priority. I help them discover what books are their favorites, how to pick out just-right books, and when and where to read. When we read in my room, we read in comfort. They don't sit at their desks or in their chairs to read. We find comfy, cozy spots around the room. We read like we would do in the comfort of our homes. We read naturally so it becomes a passion, not a chore.
