Many of the students in our classroom struggle with a condition that is the # 1 cause of childhood blindness in the United states Cortical visual impairment or central vision loss. The good news about this impairment is that because this affects the neural pathway of the brain that transmits input to the visual cortex, early intervention can have a huge impact in how a child uses their vision. To this end the focus in our classroom is teaching our students to use their vision effectively to allow them to attach purposeful meaning to objects that are used in their educational environment. Lights and light boxes will help provide opportunities for us to gain the visual attention of our students and begin to attach meaning to classroom activities and create more meaningful educational experiences for our students. We know that the following saying works: I hear and I forget, I see and I remember, I do and I understand. (Confucius)
