Every student is important. The wake-up call program will be open to any student that wants to participate. A majority of the high school students I teach are qualified for the free and reduced lunch program, but the school does not provide a breakfast program. The students are motivated to learn and would benefit substantially from a healthy breakfast. As we know, the economy has declined in the past few years, and a healthy morning meal would make students happier, healthier, and more motivated to learn. A majority of my students do not eat breakfast, and if they do eat breakfast it is usually an unhealthy bag of chips and/or a can of soda. I have been teaching health and physical education for over 20 years and I know, statistically, there are about 3-5 students per class (30-40 students) that eat a somewhat healthy breakfast. The need for nutritional education is a high and each student can make a life behavior change.
