My students attend school in a mid-sized, urban setting in Illinois. The school is a charter school with a wide demographic of students. A large number come from high-poverty situations, and others simply hope to take advantage of the educational opportunities a specialized school (science, math and technology oriented) such as ours provides. Violence is prevalent in this city, and it is an issue that frequently rears its ugly head. We are a hard-working, dedicated community, and I want to offer these amazing students every possible opportunity. Our goals is to have 100% of students admitted to college or continuing education after high-school and to help the students to be extremely proficient and ready to succeed in a rapidly changing society. Some of these students have witnessed tragedy, violence and have been exposed to things no one should have to endure. We want to provide a safe, caring learning environment within our school walls!
