My students attend school in an urban school district in a high poverty area. All of the students at my school receive free lunch. My school is a K-8 school and my students are in 6th, 7th, and 8th grade. My students require special education services for a majority of the school day in a self contained classroom for students with intellectual disabilities. They enjoy school and love to learn. In middle school, we are preparing them for their transition into high school, then adulthood. This is a pivotal time with so many skills to learn and a limited amount of time. Our life skills lessons blend academic, daily living, personal/social, and occupational skills to teach the students the skills needed to be functional members of their communities.
