My students live in a small town with limited access to books. The only bookstore in town is what can be found at WalMart. A small library opened last year, but it's just a rented room. The high school also has a library, but it's very small and simply does not have enough books to accommodate all the students interested in reading. It is also not feasible for many of the students to buy their own books; approximately one third of the students here are on free and reduced lunch. Their families simply do not have the resources to spare to buy things that aren't absolutely necessary. As an English teacher, I try to provide as many opportunities as possible for my students to have easy access to high interest books. With the limited resources I have, I've already noticed a change in attitude about reading. Help me continue to change things for the better!
