This school is not a modern school. It is over 20 years old. Most of the homes are older and some of the students live in apartments. My students are very diverse. Some are Limited English speakers. They have not mastered the English language and need visuals and resources to master the concepts in math. Most of the students have not mastered the skills needed in their current level. They have gaps in their learning and need a lot of reinforcement. My students are hard-workers and are doing the best that they can. Their parents can't always help them with school assignments because they work long hours. Some do not have the skills because they were not able to complete their education. Others simply cannot read in English. These are the challenges my students are facing, but they come each day ready to learn. I am teaching them that knowledge is power. Whether it is math or social studies, they need to have a well-rounded education.
