Students will be using Barbie Dolls to learn how to use data and math to make an accurate prediction. This is a week-long project that we have done for several years. Unfortunately our dolls are starting to show some wear and tear and are in need of replacement. This is a favorite 8th grade math project that students always talk about year after year. The first part of the project has the students gathering data by having their Barbie doll bungee jump off short distances. The bungee cord is composed of rubber bands. This data will be used to create a prediction of how many bungee cords (rubber bands) will be needed to safely bungee jump Barbie from a very high distance. This is also a competition where students are competing to see who can get Barbie the best jump (closest to the ground) with dying (hitting the ground).
