My students attend a predominately Hispanic urban Title 1 high school in Houston, TX. Like most teenagers, my students are curious about life in general and are always eager to work in the lab. State budget cuts have all but eliminated funding to purchase new materials to enhance student learning and provide hands-on opportunities. I teach AP biology and forensic science. Providing these students with hands-on labs and activities helps them see the real world applications of what we are learning in class.
