These books will continue to build the foundation and love of reading in my first grade classroom. My classroom library is a place where students want to spend time selecting books to read. All of these books were chosen to tie into comprehension and vocabulary lessons, writing response to reading, and activities that are appropriate for first grade. Having the books available in the classroom will give the students opportunities to independently or partner read as often as they like. The best way to increase a student's love of reading is to have a variety of books for the students to explore. With these new books, students can experience various genres and determine which genre they prefer. My students have shown a variety of interests in different genres from animals to fantasy to biographies to fairy tales. This project will increase their exposure to other genres and build a foundation for reading success.
