I teach in an economically depressed area. It is a Title 1 School with the issues that come with that. We provide both breakfast and lunch to every student that walks through our doors. Our district has undergone huge changes in the past year with four schools ultimately being closed and others combined. Students who formerly went to one building are now going to a different building where they may not even know anybody. Through all this the first graders continue to be hard working, fun loving, and eager learners. They consistently come to school ready to learn, eager to please and just a delight to be around. They also come to school needing school supplies, workbooks, paper, and all the little things that make our classrooms comfortable. First grade is one of the best years in school. We learn to read! We learn to add and subtract and we learn about plants and animals. The reading is the best part!!
