My students who receive Special Education services in the Resource Room are embarrassed to read aloud and experience anxiety when presented with reading material they are unable to read. The stress of attempting to read material on tests also increases anxiety levels. The use of technology as an intervention tool to increase their reading ability is a great solution and motivator for my students with reading disabilities. But, with so many families at our school without computers or regular Internet access at home, taking advantage of technology as an educational tool can be disappointing. In my classroom, however, I can be working with a small group, while two other students can be reading and listening to free applications on the tablet that are designed for students to improve their reading. While many students need the daily practice of reading, many of them don't have the additional practice when they're at home.
