My students experience poverty and crime in a way K-5th grade student's should never have to. Therefore, due to their harsh community life they bring 100% to the table in PE everyday. I take note of this and want to not reward them, but help to enrich and support their amazing attitudes by trying to reach out and bring new sports, skills, and ideas into my gymnasium. My kids are tremendous athletes with the brains to go along with it and I want to challenge them on a daily basis. In addition, they want to be prepared with team work and communication skills so that they can be successful in their middle school and post school education life. It is amazing that for kids who see so much death and tragedy, that they can look past that and find the good and safety in the schools. I hope that the challenges I put forth for my students that they accept each challenge with an open mind as they always have. My kids gave me a chance and trusted me with their heart and now I want to do the same.
