I teach at ARISE high school, a tiny charter school that empowers students to rise up and repair the world. My fabulous students come from the Fruitvale district in East Oakland. 95% of them are Latino or African American, and almost all receive free or reduced lunch. They are motivated and engaged, inspired to be the first in their family to attend college and make positive change in their community and the world.
