My students come from one of the lowest 10% performing schools in CA. We have the highest amount of absences and suspensions. Our school used to be the school that was the "last choice" when teachers were asked to choose a school. Our students live across the street in a public housing development where even their parents had grown up and also attended this same elementary school. Families have seen teachers come and go while giving up on their kids and their learning abilities. This year, my principal hand picked a group of teachers who want and are dedicated to inspiring and engaging the minds of our wonderful group of students. In just half a year, our students and parents have seen tremendous changes in the way our teachers have dedicated themselves to providing a positive atmosphere at our school. We are a thematic based school and my grade level is choosing to teach our kids about staying healthy. However, we do not have any materials to do this.
