This group of students was directly impacted by Hurricane Katrina in 2005. They had to relocate and adapt to new schools, home lives, and communities all while suffering the heartache of seeing the place they called home destroyed by a natural disaster. Despite these challenges, these students have set their minds to better themselves and advance their educations by enrolling on this tour. The charm and beauty of New Orleans are reflected in each of the students. They are vibrant, charismatic youth who have the capacity to be influential leaders of tomorrow. Yet many of their dreams are cut short by the limitedness of their environment. Like most students in our city, they come from working class families and 84% of students in our school receive free lunches.
