We know that conflict happens in our classrooms and school common areas. To transform the conflict, we need to have a foundation of community. Community Circles are a proactive, restorative approach to help build community and resolve conflict. The safety and structure of community circles is a consistent time for students and staff to come together to speak and listen from the heart. Circles provide an opportunity to look deep, to share, to learn, to see different perspectives all while building relationships with each other. Each community circle is created for a purpose; academics, social-emotional, challenges and/or celebrations. Picture books can be used as a gateway for deep introspective discussion in the classroom. This project pairs picture books and circle scripts with the restorative circle process. The books and scripts will be available in a library and available for checkout. The picture books for this project have been curated to include books where our students can see themselves in the pages.
