The students in my classroom are economically and culturally diverse since they are bussed in from all over the district. Some of my students live on farms with acres of land where they fish and hunt while others reside just down the street in manufactured homes. Some of my more wealthy students have their own computer while several households don't have a single computer at all. Our classroom was previously a small computer lab and is very cramped considering the number of growing students it holds. Not only is our classroom smaller than the other 4th grade rooms, but it lacks many of the resources the other rooms have a well. For example, we are the only room on campus without a Smartboard. I had to borrow books and basic supplies since the room was empty when I moved in. There is almost no wall space, so I rely on centers to reinforce the skills that I teach. I know it would mean a great deal to these students to have engaging centers in the classroom.
