The students in my second grade classroom come with a range of reading skills. Students build literacy skills by both developing enthusiasm for reading through engaging subjects and offering the level of text that is just the right challenge for each child. Though our district serves a middle-class population, the per-pupil funding in our district is low. Teachers rely upon donations to make up for this financial gap.
