We really emphasize time on task in reading and spend a good portion of our time together engulfed in great books, but it is difficult for even the most diligent student to stay on task in that type of heat without air conditioning or quality fans. Have you ever tried to read and concentrate with sweet dripping into your eyes? My students passionately participate in a classroom on the second floor of a fifty year old building with no air conditioning and windows that only partially open without screens to protect from insects. Our class meets after lunch and recess and the temperature is well into the 90's, even in September. Having fans, like the Vornado, will help us to be more comfortable so that my students can stay on task.
