As an educator for thirteen years, I have seen the power of whiteboards in the mathematics classroom. When students are given access to a whiteboard, they feel safe to try and safe to collaborate. These glass whiteboards will line our back wall, allowing for more space to showcase student work and thinking. These whiteboards will allow my students to work like the true mathematicians they are, collaborating with one another while still feeling safe to make mistakes and to try again. Central to my teaching philosophy is that struggling in mathematics is no more the enemy than sweating is in football: it's proof you're in the game. Struggling and making mistakes are all part of the joy of learning deep and meaningful mathematics. Whiteboards allow my students a safe space for this to happen. They can try, erase, and try again; they can share their reasoning; they can be proud of their work.
