My first graders love to learn. They come to school eager to read and write. However, my students face many difficulties in their lives. Our school is centered in a very diverse community with 70% of our students eligible for free or reduced lunch. Despite this, my students come everyday ready to explore and grow. But, with budget cuts in many areas of education, my students do not have access to engaging ways to explore words independently. My students deserve the tools that are going to make them successful in reading and successful in life.
