My students attend a large urban high school in South Florida where the nearby community has grown steadily in the past 15 years. The majority of the students are of a Hispanic descent (approximately 63%), about 29% are African-American, 5% are White Non-Hispanic, and 2% Asian/Native American or Multiracial. My students bring challenges & life experiences to the classroom environment; for instance, some of my students come from single-parent homes or live with a relative other than their parent. Other students come from homes where drugs or alcohol interfere with the family structure & must seek part-time jobs after school to make ends meet or have to take care of younger siblings. I usually have mixed levels, although, the majority tend to be Juniors & Seniors. Many students want to pursue a career in the Arts & I try to foster an environment rich with experiences that will help them excel in Higher Education. I aim to create well-rounded individuals that have a passion for learning
