Our building serves one of the most economically impacted areas of our community. We have one of the highest ESL populations in the city as well as students that take part in the free/reduced lunch program. We are near 90% poverty. Our Special Education numbers are among the highest in the district. Our student face the effects of poverty, second language, unemployment of caregivers, as well as crime, gang activities, and poor nutrition. Yet, when you ask these sweet kids what they want to do after high school, many say go to college or ask a boy and he will say play professional sports. I am blessed to be a teacher in this building.
