Flexible classrooms give students a choice in what kind of learning space works best for them, and help them to work collaboratively, communicate, and engage in critical thinking. This project requests a variety of furniture including Fit-Chairs, standing desktops, and Kore Wobble Chairs. The goal of flexible classroom spaces is to enrich academic, psychological, and sociological growth. The design of such spaces should be intentionally serendipitous. The design of learning spaces should increase levels of engagement, foster active learning and teaching, and support learning goals. When we trust students to understand their space preferences (reading while sprawled out on their belly, or standing--rather than sitting--at their computer), then students can articulate their preferred learning environment, which then becomes their OPTIMAL learning environment. Donations to this project will ensure that my students can collaborate and cluster/group themselves flexibly and seamlessly by offering a wide variety of seating options in the classroom and by harnessing a student's ability to choose, rather than constricting it.
