My students attend 1st grade in a new public school in the South Bronx. Most of our students receive a free or reduced-cost lunch. The school is located in one of the poorest congressional districts in the country. That said, the 1st graders in my class are excited to learn to read, love exploring the world around them and asking questions, and benefit from an open-ended approach that emphasizes their involvement and interests.
