My students live in a rural area of South Carolina where towns are small and there is not much for them outside of the school. I teach at 3 schools (each having their own specialty). I am starting this project for a school that integrates the arts. It is an elementary school and I teach students in grades 4-6. I am trying to make percussion instruments for them but I know later down the road we will need real percussion instruments in order to perform quality music. I teach mostly minority students who come from different economic incomes. We are asking that those students who cannot pay to participate in performing arts contribute the little they can as not to discourage them.
