Patience, a steady hand, perseverance, and a little ingenuity...a sewing machine can help a kid explore & perfect those skills. I teach high school Theater classes, including one entitled "Costumes, Hair, and Make-up". My student population is high-need. (Today I bought dinner for 5 kids, including one whose apartment building burned down on Monday night and washed the clothes of 2 others who don't have homes much less washing machines). Some of these kids may not go to college, however, they may go to a trade school. No matter where they are going after high school, these skills are ones they will need to survive and thrive as humans in our world community.
