Students at my school are passionate about getting an education. We serve a high poverty and high minority population but we have some of the most amazing students I have worked with. Our school has rigor and teachers that most elite schools are accustomed but we are still plagued by the realities of funding. My school has not given into the pressure of extreme discipline like other schools with similar demographic so our students are often described by their style and creativity. Students love our school because, although a math and science academy, we have a strong arts and music program. Our students get to express themselves in many ways here and our school supports their expression in all classes including math. In math we have them write and express their understanding with all of their work. With the majority of the concepts our students know, they will be able to explain them in ways traditional math courses do not require.
