My students come from the largest school in a district that stresses the importance of doing well on high-stakes testing. Students are used to science classes that stress memorization and see the end goal of our class as passing the state biology test. Unfortunately, many students have lost sight of the beauty of science and its ability to make life a whole lot better (or a whole lot worse, if used improperly) for mankind. I know that hands-on learning is the best way for my students to build their knowledge and to reinforce the concepts we learn in class. Due to recent budget cuts and fund reallocation, class size has increased and funding for lab supplies has been all but eliminated. I need your help to ensure that my classroom is a place where every student is engaged in scientific inquiry and all students are challenged to reach their potential.
