I've taught middle school for 23 years. In those 23 years I have learned more than all of my students! In my classroom, I try to make personal connections with what students like to do and what they are good at. I realize there is so much more to teaching than covering content. Students want to know more than just the content we have to cover. They mostly want to know you care, then they will invest in learning. The students of today are more sophisticated in some ways. They have high expectations of their teachers. As teachers, we are ever evolving to meet the needs of today's students as they struggle to find their place in this world. The world is constantly changing and the demands and expectations are changing. A few things remain the same - respect and responsibility and The Golden Rule. Give me any subject, concept or method, I can teach it and students can learn it!
