Working with my students on a day to day basis I realized that privilege wasn't given to them it was something they heard about. My school has a large population of students who fall at and just below the poverty line. Their work ethic surpasses the tremendous amount of struggle they must deal with at such an important time in their lives. They strive for excellence, and with their immense level of ambition I must do all that I can to give them every opportunity to obtain a deep connection and understanding of true student centered education. An education that will provide them with the skills to obtain a higher education in college. This opportunity comes very far and few for my students, as many of them will be the first to graduate high school in their families as well as enter college. They choose to rise to every challenge I present to them therefore I must challenge myself and those around me to give them a fighting chance when the world has seemed to turn their backs on them.
