My students attend a college preparatory school with a special focus on biotechnology. We strive to provide a challenging and enriched science curriculum with a strong emphasis on technology and the interrelationships among scientific disciplines. The program of studies in science and math emphasizes the broad understanding of theory and the application to real world issues and provides students with opportunities to pursue authentic and meaningful hands-on research. Our English classrooms strive to integrate science into the curriculum to enhance student learning. We have a large and diverse student population, and county funds are limited to the basic needs of our growing student population. Therefore, additional funding for special projects is severely limited. As an English teacher who teaches students in a biotechnology program, I would like to offer my students the chance to see how interesting science can be by reading literature that focuses on science in new and exciting ways
