Students began by practicing various stitches on cloth to get them familiar with the material. Many students struggled at first to understand how much forces was too much and broke a lot of needles at first, but over a few more tries they were able to get them. After they were done with these practice stitches they then moved on to creating a meme using 3 stitches and at least 3 different colors. Many students enjoyed this process and got really creative! After this project we reviewed the work of two artist Ágnes Herczeg and Julie Sarloutte who's style we were using in our last embroidery project. For the last project students were to identify an object they felt best represented them, embroider someone important to them using 4 stitches. After finishing their embroidery they cut out their work and attached it in an artistic way to their object and submitted it with an artist statement. \r\n\r\n When I first introduced my students to this idea, most were excited and thought it was very interesting. Yet as they started working with it some didn't like how tedious it was. This changed once we moved on to our meme's and especially the self identity piece where students started to understand what the precious assignments were preparing them for, and as they gained confidence with working with the material.\r\n\r\nAs we are moving into finals week, students have the opportunity to select any media we have used this year to complete their final sculptures. A few students have chose to return to using embroidery, or has brought in items they have chose to embroider at home for fun.","fullyFundedDate":1733150581093,"projectUrl":"project/embroider-your-art-lost-skills-made-new/8912202/","projectTitle":"Embroider Your Art, Lost Skills Made New!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Hughes","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-4_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9821206"},{"teacherId":1054923,"projectId":8874776,"letterContent":"Thru Donors choose I received snacks for the Students of Osbourn Park High School. The snacks were distributed through out all 9 counselors to be able to use for students that needed a snack though out the day. Not only did this provide food for students in need, it also allowed the counseling staff to provide a welcoming environment for students that need emotional support.\r\n\r\nThe snack initiative had such a positive impact! Ensuring students have access to food can make a world of difference in their ability to focus and engage in their studies. It is incredibly rewarding to see students staying in school, attending classes, and being ready to learn. Your donations are truly making a significant difference in the students' academic and personal lives.\r\n\r\nAddressing food insecurity, even in small ways, can have a profound impact on students' well-being and academic performance. It's inspiring to see how your donations are creating a positive environment for students.\r\n\r\nI will continue to seek donations so we can continue on with this program.","fullyFundedDate":1732323821489,"projectUrl":"project/feeding-our-youth/8874776/","projectTitle":"Feeding Our Youth","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. V","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-2_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/1054923"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_40620","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":2665,"numTeachers":133,"percentFrplEligible":57,"percentAsian":13,"percentBlack":16,"percentWhite":20,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":44,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"20.0:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":67.3,"schoolId":40620,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Osbourn Park High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Osbourn Park High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/virginia/prince-william-county-public-schools/osbourn-park-high-school/40620"}
