I have 20 energetic five and six year old students. Six are girls and 14 are boys. Ten of my students come from a single parent home. They are all excited about learning and they love coming to school each day. Five of my students have never attended any form of school prior to this year. Upon completing beginning of the year assessments of my students, four are substantially below grade level, eleven are below grade level, and five are at/above grade level. My students attend a public Title One school in South Carolina. We have an enrollment of about 550. There is a low level of parental involvement in our school and a great need for parent education. Our school does have a reading interventionist and an after school program to help students who are struggling however, kindergartners are not served.
