These materials will help turn a challenging mundane task of close reading informational text into a hands-on engaging experience. Comprehending informational texts is an area that students at all levels tend to struggle with, and is also a BIG part of our state testing. The students will use the highlighters to make the most important details "GLOW." The magnifying glasses will be to take a closer look at what the text is actually saying. The neon glasses are called "Pattern Pairs" and they will be used to find text structure patterns within the texts. Finally the black light flashlights provide an amazing culminating activity to make the most important details (already highlighted) GLOW in the dark. From here, students will be able to craft a well developed summary, which is another hard task. These engaging tools will LIGHT up the path for their reading comprehension. The students will use these tools and process repeatedly throughout the year to make their text GLOW and their reading compression GROW!
