Each week I see about 510 students from 5th-8th grade that come from low-income families, yet they demonstrate great perseverance in their academics and athletics. My students face many life challenges such as poverty and gang violence. I admire them for overcoming these obstacles. In order to have a positive classroom environment, I use the 5-Finger Contract (pictured) in which students promise to have fun, work as a team, respect one another, demonstrate commitment, and be safe.

About my class
