I am currently teaching summer school and have a wonderful group of eager 2nd graders who love to read - anything and everything. They love to read chapter books to I-Spy to joke books. In the fall, I will have a whole new class of eager students. I would like to get an early start to help them make that giant step of learning to read, to loving to read. I believe a rug will help incorporate that "homey-ness" my classroom needs. Our school is nestled in a small rural town. We see community projects that help students with school supplies, buddy packs and other necessities. However, a classroom rug is out of the realm of possibilities for me. Our small school is limited in funding, as many schools are finding themselves these days. This would be such a lift for students who rarely get new things. The boys may even want to take off their boots before reading! They would take care of the rug and want to keep it new. New things are a rare and precious commodity.
