My students attend a Title I school that is at 80 percent poverty. Although they are smart, ambitious, and personable, my students haven't been given the educational opportunities they deserve. Many claim to hate reading and their test scores show that most are below grade level. In spite of this, they are eager to learn and have a variety of interests. Next year, I will be teaching an inclusion class - meaning about half of my students will be labeled as special education. The school is about 70 percent Hispanic and we have a growing refugee population. The combination of ELL students, special education students, and mainstream students with a wide range of abilities means that we as teachers need to meet a variety of learning needs while creating an engaging and inviting learning environment.
