Tomorrow's best selling authors are sitting in classrooms all across the country right now. I don't want to see their creativity and their writer's voice snuffed out before it's given a chance to reach its full potential. I teach third grade in a high-needs community. Many of my students are from low-income households and speak English as a second language. And, too many of them are not exposed to enough children's literature at home. That means that their school experience has to compensate for the rich literature experience that some children get outside of school. I have high expectations and high hopes for my students. I need your help to make sure that they are exposed to rich, inviting and powerful literature so that they may reach their full potential and find their author's voice.
