Once upon a time there were 24 first grade students and about half of them were learning two languages at the same time! Some of them spoke one language at home and one at school and this was quite a challenge. These wonderful 6 and 7 year old children have parents who were born in countries all over the world including: Ethiopia, Somalia, India, Vietnam, Peru, El Salvador, Mexico, Korea, and Egypt. Now they are Americans and I want to help them by exposing them to as much of the English Language as I can. I plan on using the tapes during “Centers” time and possible as take-home tapes for students who do not speak English in the home.
