5th graders can have a hard time managing and exploring their emotions in the classroom and at home which can negatively effect their learning and social skills. By funding this project, I will be able to start an after school yoga and mindfulness group for 5th grade boys and girls where we will explore yoga, as well as breathing and calming strategies they can take back to their classrooms and home lives. My hope is that we can create an environment where students will have the chance to practice yoga, utilize calming strategies, and have fun with these mats in a safe space! The yoga mats will be utilized by the students as we explore different yoga poses. I have also requested some mindfulness activity books to help lead the students through different activities that will allow them to explore their emotions, learn to calm themselves from stressful situations, and all around have some fun together! This will be an active group that will help students manage their emotions and learn how to calm themselves down and better focus in their classrooms and at home!
