My students are kind to one another and, because of the diverse nature of their peers' needs, they support each other eagerly and thoughtfully. We function as a family-- a home away from homes that are sometimes filled with trauma, uncertainty and loss. We do no allow put downs in our class community, thereby creating a safe and sacred learning environment that supports risk-taking, perseverance and kicking in your best effort in everything you do. My young scholars approach learning tasks with a great deal of gusto and they do not take anything for granted. There is no time for boredom in our classroom--- we keep the learning moving! Our curricula is filled with age-appropriate studies of physics & balance, sculptors, ecology, awareness of cultures and issues of social justice. Our school was founded by parent and community grassroots activists who dreamed of better opportunities for children of color.
