3D printing can be incredibly useful to help students make connections between abstract concepts and reality. We can model ideas digitally in software, but when students can hold what they create, it makes a much stronger connection. Concepts like scale factors and proportional relationships can be difficult for many students to understand, but being able to hold scale models that they made brings a tangible connection to the classroom. Recently, I was excited to find an old 3D printer at my school, and I put it in my classroom to try setting it up. I wondered why it wasn't being used. As students noticed it, they got SO excited for the chance to explore the technology. Unfortunately, the old printer just couldn't live up to expectations. I learned that it was broken, and it is too old to fix. So, I am trying to get a new printer plus supplies.
