My students are 6th graders. They are at a point where they embrace the opportunity to learn about different people and places. They soak up this type of information like sponges. As is typical for middle-schoolers, my kids like to move around the room and collaborate on projects. The items I have requested support both of these needs. The school they attend is predominantly white. It is crucial for my students to gain an understanding of the diversity of the world prior to plunging into it. They are absolutely open to new learning, but they need the resources to get there. They worry about what is going on in different communities, cultures, and countries. They want to know. They want to participate. My students attend a public middle school in Colorado. There is a lot of diversity in our state, but not too much in the school. As sixth-graders, they are still innocent and enthusiastic. They are also a lot of fun.
