I have a two kindergarten classes, with 21 students in the morning, and 16 in the afternoon. The majority of students are boys this year! I have a wide range of abilities. Some students have come knowing how to read, and some do not know their alphabet yet. This makes it challenging in addressing learning needs within the classroom. One way that I do this is by having stations, or centers. I love teaching kindergarten because everything is new and exciting to students. They love to learn and share what they have learned with each other. One of my goals is to make kindergarten enriching and fun. It sets the tone for their feelings about school for the future, and about themselves as learners. I want them all to feel successful, believe that they can learn, and that they are valued. My school is in an older community. We have about 45% on a free and reduced lunch program. Many of my parents work, however, they are very supportive of the teachers at our school.
