I teach sixth, seventh, and eighth grade students at an arts magnet middle school. They study music and arts for 80 minutes every day. My classes give the students the opportunity to learn about all of the different professionals who work in theatre and each semester each grade level has a Theatre Company class for students who want to actually be a part of producing a one act play. Students will audition, rehearse, stage manage, and perform the play, and visual arts students in a neighboring class will participate in creating masks, props, and costume pieces. The students are most excited when they feel they can take ownership of the production. I am looking to invest in some quality musical instruments that students can use to design live sound effects for productions, as well as a costume rack with dividers to keep costume pieces organized.
