Our students are from the high poverty area of Bay Shore. These students do not have access to many of the privileges that higher income families can provide. Unfortunately, both parents are usually working to support the household. This, in turn, creates a situation at home in which the parents are absent from the child's life for most of the day. Often times these children only have one parent living with them. These situations leave our students home alone for several hours a day and into the night. These students are often given the responsibility of caring for younger siblings/relatives. Unfortunately, enriching experiences and bonding relationships tend to be few and far between.

About my class
