I teach in a large metropolitan school district undergoing massive cuts to funding. These cuts are unprecedented and have a dramatic impact on the students. I teach Diverse Learners with low incidence disabilities (Autism, Cerebral Palsy, Down Syndrome, and Low Cognitive Functioning). My classroom is a small instructional setting within a neighborhood school. My students are middle school aged. There are vast variances in the strengths and needs of the students. One thing common in my classroom is their love of learning and the need to provide them with rigorous instruction as their general education peers receive.I teach core academic subjects. We focus on building their strengths and skills. These include all facets of development- academic, language, and social.
