My wonderful second grade class is racially and ethnically diverse. I have African American/Black, Caucasians, Alaskan Native and American Indian, Asian, Hispanic, Filipino and multiracial students within my classroom. A significant part of my class has active military parents. Only 16% of my class pays for their lunches. The rest are free or reduced. Even though my students are working hard, they have to over come challenging home lives and language barriers.
